KIA ORA NEW ZEALAND I. : NORTH ISLAND IN PICTURES

I was waiting in line at the Beijing Airport ready to board my final flight to Auckland to finish my journey to the other side of the world as an older man standing in front of me started chatting with me. We were small talking about weather in China, airport food and long layovers. He told me he was from Wellington and I told him how excited I was to visit New Zealand. Right before we had gone our separate ways, he smiled and told me: “Miss, don’t go to New Zealand. It will spoil you for life. There aren’t many places that can beat this incredible beauty.”

He wasn’t wrong.

I remember the third day of my road trip, sitting on the very northern tip of New Zealand and trying to take it all in just to keep this moment forever.

I remember driving the scenic South Island’s West Coast with the ocean on the right side and Jurassic park-like bushes on the left and enjoying every moment of the van life.

I remember one morning in Kaikoura when I woke up very early and witnessed the most beautiful sunrise I had ever seen. The sky looked like it was on fire, it was unbelievable..

I remember hiking Tongariro Alpine Crossing and thinking to myself: is this still Planet Earth?

I remember my first time flying in a helicopter seeing Queenstown from a bird eye and looking down on glaciers and untouched mountain peaks pinching myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.

I remember overlooking green rolling hills of Coromandel and feeling so peaceful and content.

New Zealand truly is a slice of heaven on Earth and I find it hard to really describe the magic of it. So enough with the words, I’ll let the pictures do the job (even though they still might not do justice).
